Mount Blue Sky Cloud Inversion

Behind the Shot.

In the quietude of a very special morning atop Mount Blue Sky in Colorado, I set out to capture a sunrise that held unexpected surprises. Prepared for an ordinary sunrise shoot, nature had a unique plan in store. As the night progressed, temperatures dropped, and rain from previous days transformed into an extraordinary phenomenon. In the dim light before dawn, I discovered that the clouds had inverted, and at our altitude of 13,000 feet, we found ourselves above a vast ocean of clouds stretching in all directions. A surreal scene unfolded. Amidst this celestial expanse, I framed captivating rock formations, accentuated by the delicate presence of yellow wildflowers in the foreground. As the sun emerged between two rocks, it created a stunning sunstar burst, capturing the essence of this magical moment with the clouds' inversion adding an ethereal touch to the landscape. It was an unexpected gift from nature, turning a sunrise into a truly extraordinary experience atop Mount Blue Sky.
