Final Morning

Behind the Shot.

On the final day of 2022, I embarked on an adventure to capture the sunrise amidst a raging snowstorm that had blanketed the landscape the night before. Eager to welcome the first light of December 31st, I braved the challenging conditions to reach the iconic Boulder Flatirons. The drive through the dark and treacherous roads revealed the aftermath of the storm, with stranded vehicles and precarious driving conditions. Undeterred, I pressed on, driven by the desire to witness the sunrise over the Flatirons, a sight I had longed to experience up close. As I hiked through the deep and dense snow, I discovered a perfect bush to serve as a foreground anchor just as the Flatirons began to glow in the gentle light of the rising sun. Despite initially cloudy conditions, a surprise touch of color illuminated the sky, creating a serene and beautiful moment. This sunrise at the Boulder Flatirons on the last day of the year became a beautiful memory, a fitting way to bid farewell to 2022 and welcome the promise of a new year.
