Evening on Guanella

Behind the Shot.

Exploring Guanella Pass in Colorado for the first time, I found myself enchanted by the unfolding beauty as the sun began its descent. Arriving just minutes before sunset, I hastily gathered my camera gear and set off to discover the treasures this area held. I stumbled upon a small lake with a muddy and marshy edge. Carefully navigating its bank, I sought out the perfect vantage point. As the sun dipped below the horizon, a magical transformation occurred, the distant peaks began to glow in a brilliant orange hue. Just when I thought the scene couldn't become more enchanting, a majestic moose emerged from the willows on the opposite side of the lake. In a moment of pure serendipity, the moose glanced my way to assess if I posed any threat. Assured that I meant no harm, it continued to graze peacefully, becoming an unexpected but beautiful detail in the composition. This experience on Guanella Pass marked not only a stunning sunset capture but also a memorable encounter with the wild beauty of Colorado's landscapes.
